Garrett County won the 2010 Best New/Improved Product or Event award from the
Maryland Tourism Council at the 30th annual Maryland Tourism and Travel Summit
held in Annapolis last week. Competing against nominees from other counties in the
state, Garrett County received the award for the Barn Quilt Festival at the annual
Tourism Awards Banquet held on November 4. As a supporter of the event, The
Chamber applied on behalf of the Barn Quilt Association of Garrett County.
The first Barn Quilt Festival was held on August 1, 2010 and featured a live auction,
50/50 Drawing, Brown Bag Auction, Arts & Crafts Vendors, live music, kids' games,
food, recognition of the current Barn Blocks and the unveiling of the latest Barn Quilt
Block at Cove Run Farms.
The Best New/Improved Product or Event Award recognizes Maryland Tourism
Council members with the year's best new or improved event, tour, destination,
program, promotion or experience. The nominee must be innovative, a model for
others, and a successful Maryland tourism product. Winners are determined by a
panel of judges composed of past recipients of the Maryland Tourism Council's
Tourism Person of the Year award.
